I know I know, it has been a looooooong while since I have posted anything. I am not fully back yet but I found it pretty cool that a classic artist such as Dexter Wensel, comments on his own youtube video songs. Def had to post this on my blog.
Update from me as far as life is concerned, I'll be married within the next couple years, God willing, and I am embarking on mobile app development with android, attempting to use Words, Beats and Life, Inc (an org I am very proud to be apart of and associate myself with) as my guinea pig.
Stay tuned folks, come the summer time I hope to be posting a whole lot more and am also looking to change up the look of my blog too.

Kool & The Gang's "Love & Understanding"
I have been assisting local underground DC DJ legend, DJ RBI, in mentoring kids on hip-hop and the art of DJing at the non-profit, Words, Beat & Life. I randomly select an album from my collection and then try to tie it in with the WBL's theme for the current session. The theme for this current session is Sun Tzu's "Art of War". Definitely a good way to teach the youth about how to handle both external and internal conflicts with themselves and society.
Just wanted to share little bit of the many things I get myself involved with, especially when it comes to music.
And in lue of this particular album, I will leave you with this:
With their Universal Sound, people Come Together with Love & Understanding during Summer Madness to share each other’s Cosmic Energy encouraging folks to Do It Right Now while giving sweet harmonies of music, Sugar, to energize people who want to get down on the Hollywood Swinging.
"You got the love" feat. Gretchen Parlato (Sam Champ Remix) >> project produced by a Brooklyn native by the name of DJ Center. Def feeling this and his project from which this song comes from too...FEELIN IT!

"The Blessing" feat. SouL >> This is off of, The Foreign Exchange's co-founder, Nicolay's "The Dutch Master Vol.1" mixtape. I decided to go into my repertoire and just pull out some music i always enjoy listening to. In my opinion, just about all the music that comes out of The FE camp is great, quality music and Nicolay is ill on the remixes.
"Love Joint revisited" feat. Little Brother >> A very dear friend of mines posted some music on her fb page and so i was inspired to post an LB song...so to all my hardcore LB fans this "old but goodie" is simply FOR YOU.

Sooo the stock market crashes well, how bout some Loose Change and some Yellow Gold to make ya feel better? haha. This is another hometown 804 special edition of my blog. I will be getting back to some more music in a few weeks as I am still catching up on some things after being away on vacation.
ANYWAY, to the music....
First Up:
The homies Nickelus F and producer Ohbliv came wit on the "Yellow Gold" mixtape at the beginning of this year. I think the production on this is GREAT, especially with creative uses of the samples. Nickelus F's lyricism on this is def at his best with joint. That feel good, chill, hardcore kinda hip hop we all love and sorta miss from the 90's. This is proof we are trying to keep it going, straight outta my hometown "hood." I don't have a particular favorite, which is a good thing because I let the joint play and rock wit it. FEELIN IT.
Next:
My good homies, the brother duo, Mike Millions and Name Brand along with another ill lyricist, A Plus, on the "Loose Change" mixtape. All I got to say if y'all knew what I knew about these brothas from way back when, you'd be hella proud of 'em like me, too! Always impressed by how Mike and Name Brand seem to be raising the bar, being better than themselves with each move, at the same pace with each and every piece. On the real, with these production pieces, my homie Name Brand is def one of my favorite local producers of the DMV (and yeah I am a bit bias about it, and WHAT?!). Again this is another feel good, raw Richmond, hip hop joint. FEELIN IT.

One my favorite underrated groups of the 70's era. The Sylvers are pretty much a Jackson 5 without the Michael. All three of their albums, The Sylver I, II & III, are definitely solid and not so surprisingly there were many other groups out there at the time that were just as good but the Jacksons just stole the spot light....Watch Unsung on TVOne, learn somethin' while your at it haha.
Other music news:
RocNation, Jayz's label under live nation has legendary potential...my two favorite artist on top right now, J. Cole and Wale, singer I have been following for a couple years Daniel Merriweather, and Will Smith daughter, Willow is also signed under RocNation and does not sound half bad

As many of you know, I've had an interest in being involved with music in some shape, form, or fashion. I recently teamed up with my DJ mentor, Nic tha 1da, who convinced to buy a Numark iDJ2 mixing machine and start practicing. Doing this stuff just seems so natural to me and i love it. I hope to dedicate some more time to it and really perfect it in my own way. I have a particular style and will stick with it. MUCH respect to all the real DJs out there making their living off this...I personally like a particular crowd, lol.

"I wish it would rain" feat. Mayer Hawthorne --> Shout out to my boy Levi for showing me the video for this...so I've been a lil' slow in posting some music from Mayer Hawthorne...my fault. He is trying to bring back that old mellow feeling from the past to R&B, I'm wit'it!
"Hey Young World Pt.2" feat. Dave Ghetto, Mystic and Phonte --> Pulled from my huge 9th wonder collection...can't even remember which mixtape (believe it is of Dave Getto's cd produced by 9th) it came from but heard it recently in the car and definitely wanted to put you all on......FEELIN' IT!!!

"Dear God" feat. The Roots --> The Roots are coming with it again. How I Got Over will be in stores soon. Their last album 2 years ago people considered a flop. They are one of the few hip hop groups out there that consist of mainly a live band as their man production piece.
"The Do" feat. TiRon --> I am already a fan of TiRon (still jammin' to "Smile") but this Dilla produced track is making it easy to show why I am still a fan. I like this Latino infused beat.
"Paper Please" feat. Talib Kweli --> Talib steps back into his political conscientiousness that he is known for on this one talking about the immigration issue that is hugely plaguing our society now in days.
"Hot N Fun" feat. N.E.R.D. & Nelly Furtado --> sorta feeling this one from the band outta the 7-5-7! Can't wait for this next N.E.R.D. album to release!
"Tell Me Bout It" feat. Sene --> another smooth joint from Sene....FEELIN IT.

I am joining the bandwagon on the opinion that Dom Kennedy's "From the Westside with Love" mixtape is fiya! Very good production. This song should be a familiar tune to you 9th wonder fans. It was used on the "Dust ya shouldas off" remix off "Black is Back" remix album of the Black album (my favorite of the many that were made). Both are samples off Norman Connors's "Butterfly"....get that mixtape!
One of my favorite artists and favorite songs...my friends who know me, know that anytime Anita Baker is on, I am in a trance that I can not come out of...Auntie Anita is an essence of soul, love, the elegance of beauty in music.
"I want you" feat. Cee-lo --> Cee-lo is back and I'm FEELIN IT!!! Unfortunately this is only a radio rip so I will update once I get a hand on the actual leaked single.
Support good music and go get that B.O.B. out today!

A lot fans and neo-soul fanatics are sayings they are getting tired of the same stuff he continues to put out but I say if it works for you and you are still making good music, keep doing whatcha doin...I've always liked the sound and my feeling aint change. His album will be at the end of June, W.W.W.

"She makes me feel Alright" feat. Freeway (Produced by JakeOne) --> from one of the illest underrated albums out right now...The Stimulus Package. I recommend this album as it is a breath of fresh to death hip hop at it's best. CD has remained in heavy rotation ever since it came out in February.....go get that!..."yeeeeeah!"...FEELIN IT!
Just wanted to put yall on my FAVORITE podcast (yes this is a rarity that i have one favorite, lol). The legendary Phontigga from the Legendary Little Brother crew along with DJ Brainchild started their own radio show back in late 2008. Since then have put out 17 episodes. No there is no consistency to when they do podcast but I kinda like the inconsistency. They put it out whenever they have time. Phonte keeps it very down to earth and really talks about some things related to what is going in the general public with comic spin on it of course while putting you on to some very good different music that is not easy to find. I highly suggest you take a listen while you are cleaning the house, at work, or just chillin at home. Episodes are usually about an hour and half.
FYI: Gordon Gartrell (an actual clothing line) mentioned on The Cosby's and the logo for the radio show is from Season 1, Episode 8.
"Take over the world" feat. Kidz in the Hall & Colin Munroe --> Just Blaaazzzee!...had to get that in there, lol.. Kidz in the Hall is much respected, though I don't always feel their music, they do have a ton of hits I do like...these dudes graduated with degrees from IVY league schools, top of their class (just a lil' fyi)...FEELIN IT!
"DMV Rock" feat M1 Platoon --> DMV reppin' from DC!...another track produced by the Legendary 9th Wonder...FEELIN IT!

"Cheesesteak" feat. Downill & Von Pea of Tanya Morgan --> Waitin' on there next album to drop. They have been putting in some work! Donwill's album drops next week on the 23rd.
Gostface soundin' like he coming wit another tight one, interesting technology too, haven't had a chance to play around with it though...FEELIN IT!!
"Strange" feat. David Banner and Big Remo --> 9th the legend coming wit it...this is another song that will most likely be on the David Banner and 9th Wonder callabo album...YEAH!!

"Dear Winter" feat. Reks --> Some intellectually stimulating and motivational spirits for your mind....The title is pretty appropriate for the what has currently gone on in the Nation's Capitol with this blizzard, aint it? lol...
"Ms. Right (prod. MF DOOM)" feat. Ayomari & TiRon --> Never really heard of these cats but I though the beat was hot and rhymes weren't too bad either...One of my previous posts I had put you on to MF Doom with him doing his own sampling of Anita Baker's "Sweet Love"
"Green" feat. Coultrain --> As I continue to pull things out of my repertoire, I continue to discover how much great music is out there and has been out there for years. I remember hearing this song on an online radio station I used to listen to, LiquidSoulElements outta the ATL...SO SOULFUL AINT IT?!...Coultrain...FEELIN' IT!

"Impatient" feat. The Kickdrums & Big Pooh --> I know after yall saw the name Big Pooh, you figured, "that's why he posted it"...partially yes, lol, but I also am definitely feelin' it a lil bit. Taps into my other side of music but I am keeping my posts to ones I believe my fam would feel.
Man, already a crazy beginning to 2009 2010. In the past few years we have lost many iconic music legends. Let's make sure we continue the preservation of the music as the baby boomer era is now being laid to rest.
Rest in Peace, Teddy Pendergrass Sr., March 26, 1950 – January 13, 2010.
"Give In" feat. Darien Brockington and Phontigga --> thought this was a really well produced song, lyrically strong as well. Produced by none other than the infamous Nicolay of The Foreign Exchange , 4hero ( I have no doubt that Nicolay had some influence on this one though)...DEF FEELIN IT! (4hero has some pretty good production if you have a chance to check 'em out) ... alternate link
"Don't Try to Call Her" feat. Ryan Leslie --> Mr. Leslie continues to bring the heat with his song writing and producing! This song definitely hit me a little. Should of heard this song several months ago, lol.
Wanted to post this song that is also produced by Mr. Leslie. I just think it is a great song!
I promise you will not go wrong with this mixtape if you enjoy good production and lyrics. Elzhi's "The Preface" is a heavily slept-on, phenomenally produced and written album. I would even go as far to argue that it is a CLASSIC!
"Decline" feat. Chiddy Bang --> this song is off of the Swelly Express mixtape. I was actually caught off guard and almost didnt download a few months back, so glad I did...it is a well put together mixtape, very impressive..they have been in the game for minute.
This one deserved it's own posted. I remember when I was in high school when Skillz started the Rap Up on Power Nine-Duece FM!!! I've got all 'em since '02....804 Represented as always!!!!
"I'd do IT all again" feat. Corinne Bailey Rae --> I know this is not the usual tempo of most of my music post but I REALLY thought this was a beautifully elegant song and wanted to post it.
"Braggin' and Boasting" feat. Little Brother and Sound Provider --> I heard this one of the many mixtapes I have of the infamous LB crew and definitely wanted to find a way to share.....FEELIN IT.
"Think Good Thoughts" feat. Drake, Phontigga & Elzhi --> This song is just plain SICK!!! Using one of my favorite Anita songs (probably why I like it so much). The original was with out Elzhi produced by 9th a few years ago. I know because I got the Little Brother Get Back Army mixtape.
"Devil in a Red Dress" feat. Illa --> This is actually one of my boys, Turi, from high school out of the 804, Go Lancers, lol....REPRESENTIN'!!
"Buttercup" feat. The Jackson Five & Stevie Wonder --> Definitely feelin' this...Stevie Wonder has classics for generations, trust me. That man and M. Jackson have probably written a song for everyday of their lives, lol. Can't you tell Stevie produced this one?
In lue of the BEAUTIFUL Alicia Key's album coming out this week, which will definitely be copped by me, had to put this bonus joint from her EP...GO GET THAT!!! I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG!
"Look what you're doing to me" feat Jazzanova & Phonte --> I LOVE THIS JOINT TO DEATH!! Phonte showin' off his harmonizing skills on this one. I've had had this song for a couple years and gives me the same feeling everytime I hear it. I heard it playing in Best Buy and was quite surprised!
Definitely feeling this video from my man, Mr. Ray. "No mans land" is from his recent mixtape. If you aint heard the, B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray you are missing some quality music. Still rollin' to his rendition of Bonita Applebum!!!
"Beast" Feat. Wale --> Another 9th Wonder track with Wale...I don't know about yall but I felt Wale's freshmen album was solid but not fiya like a lot of the songs that are out there, maybe it was a business move to not make this album classic?? FYI: his record didn't do so hot with sales but shoot that is neither here or there, I know he is trying to build a fan base the old fashion way (Wale's words not mine)
"Strange Fruit" feat. Common & John Legend --> I think you all may recognize this beat from somewhere else - update:just in case you couldn't figure out where this one was used first, it was with Cassidy on his last album B.A.R.S. called "celebrate."
Melanie Fiona is definitely a solid album. Bringing back some more soul for R&B...following the paths the retro feel like Amy Winehouse & Raphael Saadiq. Also, Wale is definitely a solid album, too......GO GET 'EM!!! (Did I mention I am really feelin' that Melanie Fiona joint?!!)
More of the beautifully talented Ms. Fiona in the streets of London this time...still lovin it! P.s. Her album is out now and it is definitely not a bad look at all! go get that!
Crash feat. Strange Fruit Project and Thesis--> Strange Fruit has done a lot of tracks with 9th wonder as well; based out Texas. Definitely check them out on some other things if you are feeling this track.
Keep it Real feat Jovi Rockwell --> Feelin' this track from de Islands. Haven't had a chance to hear the mixtape but be my guest to it.
Tru Love feat Chief, Blu & Sene --> Nice lil' joint. I meant to post this one a few weeks ago. Blu is becoming one of favorite lyricists. The album "Below The Heaven" produced by Exile is on my top 20 all time album list...classic! (yes, that serious)
Freed is Over feat Sophia Ramos --> tapping in once again to my other sides of music from some black rock artist. I like this one a lot. If you are into rock too, check this download of black rock artists free on Amazon; not a bad look at all. P.S. check out Dope Sagittarius i think that is pretty good track I think you all might like too.
But it's not just music; it's endless flows of emotions and expressions conveyed through art compiled with ingenious rhythms and rhymes that connect to our brains and help to control, relax and/or enhance our emotions in this crazy cold world that wants to destroy them. I was gonna wait to gather more music that would make the cut but in lue of recent events, i'll share some of my therapy with the fam....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night by Night feat. Chromeo --> Reminds of my fun times (and future times to come) in the U.K. Probably why I like this one, haha. I know some of yall may not be feelin' this one. Ah well...
Up All Night feat. Skillz --> It's the S-K-I-double L-Z! Gotta rep home, all day! Finally comin' back on the scene hopefully continuing to bring more fiya as his last album definitely was an awakening. Don't get me wrong; I'm a huge fan of Skillz but production with many of his albums just never quite hit it for me.
All I can say is WOW....Her name is Jessie Cornish....Look out now! U.K. STAND UP!
P.S. If you like that you will definitely feel this one, too.
The Foreign Exchange crew has done it once again, first zo! & tigalo love the 80's and now this cut with re-makes such as "Perfect Angel" originally by Minnie Ripperton (sampled many times of course). I PROMISE you will not go wrong in downloading this joint. It's called just visiting too. Go get that! (It's Free, lol...)
Now this is the Raheem DeVaughn I remember and like!!....that bold, speakin' on the issues, with the soul, sangin'! Please don't get me wrong; his last album showed the smooth R&B Mr. DeVaughn and that joint was hot, too. This video is pretty animated and meaningful; good cut by Luda on this one (as if that aint usual)
Get Started feat. Strong Arm Steady & Talib Kweli --> Strong Arm Steady & Talib have done a duo or two before. S.A.S is not a bad lyricist, not one of my favorites but he def deserves some credit when ever he hits a track with his delivery.
Unabomber feat. J.Cole --> Jayz sure knows how to pick 'em. J. Cole continues to bring that fiya and I'm lovin' it. Let's get it! p.s. this has a 50cent-ish type of feel to it, to me, i dont know why...
It's Alright feat. Saigon & Marsha Ambrosius --> Saigon is always coming hard with some REAL things to talk about. He always got my respect. (did you hear the shout out to Mr. Magic at the beginning?)
From Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother and his debut "Sleepers"....Bought this album back in 2004 and has been in heavy rotation every since! The production that went into to the album was pretty decent since 9th was behind it. Great album along with Elzhi's Preface; the type of albums that you can just let play.
Just plain beautiful...I love it. Blending of artistic talent around NYC(my fam & friends outta the boroughs will appreciate this one) with Miss Melanie Fiona
Solar Midnite feat. Lupe Fiasco --> Like the mix of rock and hip hop... this is reminiscent of a song on his last album The Cool (i.e. Hello/Goodbye)where he embraces his rock and roll and influence; this one is a lil more upbeat.
Bad Habits - Maxwell --> I know yall have heard the singles from the Maxwell's latest, Black Summers' Night, but this joint is reminiscent of the "old" Maxwell and one of favorites....smooth out the afternoon to that.
Good Will Hunting feat. Theo --> Theo always has some good feeling hip hop. Pretty good producer and writer (though this one is not produced by him) I got a mixtape of his from a year ago that is still on rotation. Look him up
Wayna feat. Wale "Billy Club" --> DMV collabo!...FYI: Wayna was a speech writer for former President Bill Clinton...she's talented and intelligently beautiful...yes!
Impossible by Daniel Merriwether ---> you may remember this man from a song he did with Wale several months back. I like him. He has a pretty original style, little bit of a Justin Timberlake/Robin Thicke thing going on.
The Noisettes, a band out of London...gotta keep up with my London chaps. I like this group.
Amerie and Trey Songz remake of Mint Condition's "Pretty Brown Eyes". This song is rumored to be featured on Amerie's next upcoming album....YEWWP!, sorry had to do it, VA, 804 all day baby!
Didn't take a lot of time or come across a lot of music that I felt the fam would feel. But there is so much good music and talent out there I am sure you all are able to keep it going...So I will leave you with a song I heard a lot this past weekend and one of my favs from LTD & J.O.
J. Rawls feat. Invisible Hands --> just feeling this one; a good mix of jazz and hip hop. Rawls is well known for producing music mixed with hip hop and jazz. I have one of his hip hop jazz albums, good buy.
Brittany Bosco is a Savannah, GA native. Man o man, this album just has a good feel to it all together; smooth, relaxing, jazzy, soulful. I have other music updates coming...like a whoooooooole lot, but I don't want to keep people waiting on good music that should be heard now.
My last post was on the not-so-high-in-happiness side....so through the heartache I still want to impress some good soul feeling music upon ya. Most of yall know I am old school at heart so cheers to one of my favorites.
