Ima do me, so you need to do you.....

Is Narcissism really some physiological deformity or just a societal fungus? We live in a society of "doing me" "miss independent" "I don't need your help" "communal-less" people. I've always wondered myself if Narcissism was just something to get grant money like diagnosing children with ADD.... (photo take from ericstores.com)

A 6 Hour Rant, For the People

"I now call to the Floor the gentleman from Vermont, Senator Sanders."

A 6+ hour filibuster on the Bush tax cuts?? No way? Yes, way.

Incredible? Watch, the video cause I probably will not watch it; a senator talk for 6 hours though, would help me go to sleep....

I am posting something about this because from the ~~Democrat~~ Independent side of things, you don't usually hear about big time filibusters...and also because we know that many of the Obama supporters may in fact be no more because of this one big promise that looks like is not going to be kept...no blame here though....

We, the middle class, were defended well as Senator Sanders taught a semester of the U.S. economical history in 6 hours....

A World Hard To Keep, But Easy To See

There are tons of things going on in the World, too much for me to even attempt to keep track of. Everything from the recent South and North Korean head bumping, to continual European bank failures, to Nicaraguan bullying of the Costa Rican border...

In lue of that, I would like to speak of my many travels this year; 7 countries, which included a 2 day driving trip through 5 European countries (U.K., France, Belgium, The Netherlands, & Germany); being the best man in a wedding in Montego Bay; flying to Costa Rica for week, driving through the country side.

I want to encourage others to see the world and gain more perspectives, break your comfort zone. I personally also do it for those who can't, which include much of my immediate and close family. I will leave you all with just a few pictures to enjoy from my year of many travels....

open your eyes,
no fool, with ya mind,
see, ya so closed minded,
you been walking blindly on this earth,
comfortable in ya dark, afraid to step in the light,
cause when first felt, it made ya eyes hurt
just because your dollar makes sense (cents),
doesn't mean another's wealth, has no worth
come to find out most of the world doesn't live or think like you,
so when the truth speaks,
we find ourselves in the dirt looking for the pieces of reality,
we fail to keep,
open your eyes with ya mind....

Fact Drop: Third World

Cold War map of 1st, 2nd and 3rd world countries

Just wanted to share the actual meaning behind "Third World" when referring to another country. We, the citizens of the U.S., have decided bastardize the meaning as we do many other meanings of words. It simply refers to countries, that did not align themselves with capitalism (1st world) or communism(2nd world) during the Cold War. These countries, whom of which decided not to jump on any particular bandwagon were usually were neutral (and had their own financial system already set up). Now, yes our bastardization of the word does have some substance because many of these countries are impoverished. They include some African nations and some South American (or American) nations as well as a few Asian nations (i.e China Communist).

New Water, the Bloody Banks, and more...

For you seafood lovers in the DMV area, you should all know about the "Warf"....well there are some new plans for the "Warf" and Southwest Waterfront in DC....check em out here

Greece, Belgium, Spain, Romania, France, ect....remember the big European Central bank bailout talk that happened in 2008, well lads the reality is near. Strikes all throughout the European Union are happening and it's REAL. We aren't the only coming upon a 3rd depression....

Muslims saved Jews during WWII...yup that's right. All extended from a strong root of faith known as BESA; which are collections of traditions of the Albanian customs and culture which altogether represent "faith" and "keeping honor"....some Christians could take a lesson from that...take that O'Reily, yeah!...

Not much more caught my eye for the small moment I had to concentrate on what's going on in the world as i continue to travel the world myself...next up...COSTA RICA.

One my favorite underrated groups of the 70's era. The Sylvers are pretty much a Jackson 5 without the Michael. All three of their albums, The Sylver I, II & III, are definitely solid and not so surprisingly there were many other groups out there at the time that were just as good but the Jacksons just stole the spot light....Watch Unsung on TVOne, learn somethin' while your at it haha.

Just had one of those days

Yeah I know I've posted this picture before but definitely needed this kit today.

You know the feeling you get when you feel like an idiot in not being to get a task done and people have high hopes? I have had many of the occurrences in my field but then you may suspect I suck at what I do or what I do requires a good amount failure before success. In any case...

12-hour work day with no positive results...

But then you remember you are alive and healthy and there's always tomorrow....

Remembering my paved path....

Dr. Charles L. Yates, the first African-American graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, passed away August 12th, 2010.

I am ever so grateful for the courage of Dr. Yates and his fellow classmates of color for helping to pave a path so that I may attend such a prestigious university as Virginia Tech. Tech's education and environment made me well-equipped for the world. Involved in everything from the Computer Science clubs, to Student Government, President of the Black Student Alliance, and associated and work on several committee with much of all of the top administrators of Virginia Tech...Marching on the steps of Burruss Hall and busting into the President's administrative office when they decided to do away with affirmative action

It is both an honor and privilege to be able to follow the footsteps of those, who in some cases gave their lives, to prove equality for all. Dr. Yates may not have thought he was doing anything grand by wanting to simply attend a great University and receive the same quality of education as everyone else, but to those students and alumni of color, it meant receiving a quality of education that some never dreamed that could ever afford or have; it meant becoming one the first in their family to attend a 4-year University; it meant, still in this day, fighting the odds that one day they'd be incarcerated or selling drug soon to be 6 feet under.

Big Up to you, Dr. Yates! Thanks....

May you rest in peace at your heavenly home.

Food, 'Die' Cheap

After reading this article, http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=128621057, I was inspired to write this post....

Yes, I pride myself on eating healthy. I remember making a pledge and promise to myself while I was in college, that once I graduated, while I can AFFORD to, I will eat as healthy as possible no matter what because I had no excuse unless times truly got that rough in which what kinds of food i put in my body no longer mattered.

Anyone else see that as an issue though???

We as a country continue to pounce on those who are obese and even I turn my nose up at the obese sometimes because much of it also does have to do with exersize as well. BUT it is amazing to me how we push for healthy eating habits and yet the cost to do so is not for the lower middle class family. No, you aint got to shop at Whole Foods or places like Trader Joe's who have their own contracted farmers. It is simple looking at the labels and knowing what you put in your bodies but I came to the realization a few years ago very often, the things you often want to put in your body tend to stack their bills high when it comes to checking out.

Just a few things and habits with healthy eating and shopping:

items that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup - the reason why many have raved about this cheap man-made material is because the fact that produces chemical addiction in the body and induces fat building because it is often harder to break down this substance...you will also notice most items with this material in it, tend be cheaper, of course
i know this sounds a bit corny and much, but try being things in which the ingredients you at least know or understand, so you can now how much of the bad or good stuff is going in your body, lol
Frozen vegetable are often "flash frozen" and can be just as healthy as the fresh produce than can go bad quickly and be quite expensive
A big reason why we are addicted to these fatty food is taste, most will say all these dag gone healthy foods have no taste....that is true statement, if you add no season to your foods. I am huge fan of seasoning which does wonders to your food and can often make it healthier as well.
Consume foods that make you full quicker...you know how you can be so hungry you can eat a whole pizza? try eating a whole 'whole wheat' pizza and tell me if you can finish it? Probably pretty tough to finish, not only because it's not that tasty but hugely because foods higher in fiber content tend to make your fuller hence lower increase in your appetite....but use some common sense too, if you are actively exersizing your appetite will increase no matter what.

Also here is WebMD's list of healthy foods under a dollar.....mostly fruit but, it's a start.

by the way, that BMI mess definitely is not accurate for the record, it says that I am near obese because I am 5'2 at 132lbs and I am athelete, boxing and basketball, go figure....

Check, ya rhymes, they might need money

MY FIRST OFFICIAL MIX...DJ LookUp is now in effect my people...ENJOY!!!

Audio file

As many of you know, I've had an interest in being involved with music in some shape, form, or fashion. I recently teamed up with my DJ mentor, Nic tha 1da, who convinced to buy a Numark iDJ2 mixing machine and start practicing. Doing this stuff just seems so natural to me and i love it. I hope to dedicate some more time to it and really perfect it in my own way. I have a particular style and will stick with it. MUCH respect to all the real DJs out there making their living off this...I personally like a particular crowd, lol.

Dance grooves and Argentinian Rainbows...

Watch on YouTube

Aiight my hokies always doing it big. First we win the global competition for the greenest house and now we re-create gravity through dance, this joint was hot!....done by PKA, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

This is definitely BIG...the 1st South American Country to legalize homosexual marriages...and the winner goes too.....ARGENTINA...hmm, i really believe this could get ugly and be ugly for a while....

A Valid Race

Read this in the D.C. Metro area local newspaper the Examiner.

As I read that quote once again, I thought to myself...there may in fact be some truth to that.

The concept of "race" when referring to one's complexion was created in the United States but it's concept is Euro-centric to some extent. "We" American took the Eurocentric socio-econical class concept and essentially twisted it a little further to a form of control.

that is the only two-sense, I wanted to add, haha..

Simple humility

Today I was reminded, as we all need constant reminders, of the kindness that does exist with us human that exist in our man-made created hell.

That man was eating that pizza like it was his first meal since birth.

A guy in a suit walked up to him and quietly asked "are you hungry!". The man on the ground shook his head, yes. And the man in a suit proceeded to give the whole pizza in a box and walk back to his car and drove off. I saw the man sitting down had a cell and seemed to be sending a text...that may or may not relevant but nonetheless.

Guy was sitting their playing his heart out...

Be humble. Be human. Be.

Ron Paul, the only one

Just thought it was interesting that Ron Paul was the only person to vote in the House of Representatives against giving the BP oil spill panel, commissioned by the Obama administration, subpoena power. Not too suprising since he is and always has been against big government intervention but he holds tight to his morals...

'If chivalry's dead, women killed it...' '

A quote from a blind businessman on the metrorail when a woman gave up here seat for him to sit yesterday morning.

Thought that was quite the interesting quote.

But to add more to that, has the so-called independent woman killed chivalry? Do us men really feel that there isn't much left for us to do since many women of the current generation feel they can do it all themselves, even when a man attempts show some chivalry it is can often be back-fired? I wonder....

Cash or Credit?

Reading the free local Express paper from the DMV area, I came across their top story where the DCPS are expected to raise the average salaries of the educators of the worse public schools in the nation. The union has renegotiated there contracts for 2 year salary increases to average $81K, in which teachers have not seen increases since 2006.

I believe all educators deserved to be compensated extremely well. But my only inquiry is should they be rewarded for a current failing school system or should we automatically increase the salaries and hope money talks? Why not also give the teachers better quality materials first as well.

But in lue of my inquiry I must remember I am not in the shoes of the teachers that go to work everyday and work with what they got....

Just some quick simple thoughts

Government take overs and more...

The power of Eminent Domain is always been a controversial issue, but yet we, the people, can almost do nothing about it because by a technical default no land is truly owned by anyone. Eminent Domain proves that and now the people of Vermont are fighting to keep their farm land from going into the hands of the Department of Homeland Security.

Attempt failed by BP to stop the "top kill" the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico. I don't know about y'all but this kinda scary if you really think about it. I am sure we all remember or at least heard of the Exxon Valdez oil spill catastrophe in Alaska which is STILL being clean up after 2+ decades. This is likely to be 5 times the clean-up cost or more not too mention the environmental impact on the coast....

I do not usually use unofficial blogs as references to news but I read this blog on the Guantanamo cases and was very intrigued. Also, a very close friend of mines' girlfriend is one of the attorneys trying the Guantanamo case. So very proud of her...Shout out to you C. O.! Any who, I found it interesting that many cases have been thrown out because of the fact many prisoners were moved from Guantanamo to other locations which then plays to fact that they were moved from the plagued environment from Guantanamo, very interesting....

Listening to the Horne

"I wish it would rain" feat. Mayer Hawthorne --> Shout out to my boy Levi for showing me the video for this...so I've been a lil' slow in posting some music from Mayer Hawthorne...my fault. He is trying to bring back that old mellow feeling from the past to R&B, I'm wit'it!

Watch on YouTube

Watch on YouTube

"Hey Young World Pt.2" feat. Dave Ghetto, Mystic and Phonte --> Pulled from my huge 9th wonder collection...can't even remember which mixtape (believe it is of Dave Getto's cd produced by 9th) it came from but heard it recently in the car and definitely wanted to put you all on......FEELIN' IT!!!

"Tigallo for Dolo" feat. Phontigga --> Yeah, I know most of yall that purchased the "last" Little Brother album, Left Back came up a little disappointed but make no mistake I still bump the album and this song is self continues to show why Phonte is one the illest most dynamic lyricists in the game....FEELIN' IT!

Audio file

"Neon Valley Street" feat. Janelle Monae --> Just plain beautiful. This song is dope...getting me all excited about her album. If you haven't seen or heard some of Ms. Monae's performances, Youtube her. Her voice is AMAZING...FEELIN' IT!

Support Ms. Monae's album, The ArchAndroid....a breath of fresh air to music with a voice of beauty...they let her creativity shine on this one.

"Brainswash(remix)" feat. Apollo Brown, yU, Grap Luva & Finale --> Apollo, who produced the remix of the orginal (from yU of the Diamond District), is outta Detroit. Haven't heard much of him but there is good buzz that he could be next big time producer comin' outta motor city...FEELIN IT.

"Dear God" feat. The Roots --> The Roots are coming with it again. How I Got Over will be in stores soon. Their last album 2 years ago people considered a flop. They are one of the few hip hop groups out there that consist of mainly a live band as their man production piece.

Audio file

"The Do" feat. TiRon --> I am already a fan of TiRon (still jammin' to "Smile") but this Dilla produced track is making it easy to show why I am still a fan. I like this Latino infused beat.

Audio file

"Paper Please" feat. Talib Kweli --> Talib steps back into his political conscientiousness that he is known for on this one talking about the immigration issue that is hugely plaguing our society now in days.

Cyberspace Officers

No, the title of this post is not some type of metaphor.

The Air Force has a new division, Cyberspace Command, which is promising to be comprised of more officer with high technical (IT related) competency. I am impressed...go Blue!

Portugal has now ratified the homosexual marriages into it's law system. Found that to be interesting since it's foundation is Catholic and the Latino culture heavily frowns upon the homosexual community. Argentina also recently passed a law allowing the marriages as well...I'm starting to see a trend here.

Yeah, I know I am little late on this one but kudos to Notre Dame's first black valedictorian, Katie Washington, representing the class of 2010...Job well done!!!!!!

Race bigotry, no sympathy

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/37131.html

The law prohibits the teaching of any classes that promote “the overthrow of the United States government,” “resentment toward a race or class of people,” “are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group” or “advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”

Definitely wanted to post my thoughts on this one...to the point.

Ethnic studies brings about offense behavior towards the government, really? How does a class on learning about other cultures relay to over throwing the government? Is that those who are in power are afraid of people gaining the truth of history of the United States overthrowing governments less powerful than them. Do we need to mention Guatemala, Chile, ect.?

I remember back in high school (late 90's early 2000's) still learning the same ole history and knowing little about my own or any ones else culture except for Europe (mainly British) and US history. If we, the United States of America, claim to be such a diverse country that is open to other cultures, why are we sending the message that learning about another culture mean you are dishonoring your country?

If you travel anywhere else outside of the U.S, the most common language used other than the language of the native country, is English. Yet most of us north Americans do not even want to take the time to learning and master another country's language.

So as far as resent towards another class of people, I ask what message are we sending then by removing ethnic study courses from a curriculum???

Just wanted to start a discussion on this one...i know this was not the most intricate or thorough post but always willing to put it out there for the fam

Phenomenal Man by Charles Fox

Handsome Men wonder where my secret dwells

I'm don't resemble Boris, Shemar, or Mr. Chestnut anyone can tell

But when I start to tell them,

They think I'm jiving

I say

It's in the depth of my voice

The conviction of my speech

The pep in my step

The length of my reach

I am a man

Phenomenally

Phenomenal Man

That's me.

I walk into a crowd

Just as tranquil as can be

I don't have to call attention to myself through gestures

All eyes are on me

Women wonder about my quiet demeanor and what lurks below the surface

I move with extreme confidence and determination,

I am a King with a purpose

The inferno of emotion, boiling right beneath the exterior

I don't brag, boast, or bother

To trivial things, I am superior

I am a man, an African Monarch

I'm proud of my full lips and the texture of my mane

I am the personification of perseverance

Strong and unwavering

Complex yet difficult while still simple and plain

I'm a man

Phenomenally

Phenomenal Man

That's me.

Some women wonder what attracts them to me

When they look at my face

Gorgeous is not what they see

What they observe is confidence and that's all I can be

Phenomenally

It is the obscurity of my soul

The charm of my heart

My individuality

My willingness to be myself

That makes women pick me up

And leave the 'flashy replica'on the shelf

Phenomenal man

I don't have to talk too loud

Or self promote

When I get the best of you, there is no need for me to gloat

The complexion of my skin, the freckles on my face

The grip of my warmth

The sincerity of my faith

It's the genuine nature of my passion

The stride of my feet

That frustrates the insecure

And makes my life complete

I'm a man

Phenomenally

Phenomenal Man

That's me.

A good point was made by the daily beast today. So The Tea Party supported by those such as Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin says the Obama administration is turning the US into a police state because the "enforcement" of insurance policies, the watch dog over banks and Wall Street but yet Arizona is now enforcing such a mentality we have yet to see the same energy from the Tea Party towards this enacted law. More discussion

Funny Friday: Welcome to Arizona

In lue of one of the currently most discussed controversies...

Black farmers still not gettin' their money

"The Pigford II settlement agreement, which is contingent on appropriation by Congress, will provide a total of $1.25 billion dollars to African American farmers who alleged that they suffered racial discrimination in USDA farm loan programs"

Pigford II Litigation ––> article

Not sure why I haven't heard a lot of discussion about this within the media but then again, I do...

...And Congress says (at least what I think it would say if Congress was an actual person), "look here we don't have any more time to appropriate this contingency"...REALLY? An emergency appropriation was rejected as well. The providers of the food we consume each and everyday, we do not have time to pay? Keeping it in perspective, I do not sit in session with Congress in the Senate or House so I honestly do not know everything that is on the table of the discussion but of course that is why we have the wonderful C–SPAN network. I also do not know exactly what the attorneys for these farmers are asking Congress for in detail so yes this all speculation but I am still wondering....WHAT THE HELL?

But now that I think about it, Arizona is getting a lot of shine which will bring me to another post...

F the Constution, Prove it Obama....

I wanted to also comment about the hoopla over what the Arizona legislation is doing as well...

Most of yall would care less if he produced his real birth certificate and shared with the public...oh wait, he did...and you still believe he is a lie...Yeah, I am laughing with you, Mr. President.

So yeah umm, Article II, Section, Clause 5 of the Constitution states the a presidential candidate must be a natural born citizen of the United States. Let's use some common sense (which is not common) and think, if the Constitution, the foundation of all laws of the United States, is stating this is a requirement, wouldn't you (Arizona) think that proof must be shown...I am still bit confused by their push for legislation but eh, what do I know? I am no politician....

Angels added to the army...(Continued)

I felt that this last passing needed to be put on a separate page simply because I have a lot to say and this person was very close to my god son's family and I too developed good relationship with him.

Joshua McMackle was shot and killed this past weekend at Texas Southern University. He was a first year student while attending, only 18...

While attending party, he was shot in the back. I remember when I met him, we were at the annual Street family reunion and we were chillin' most of the time, talking about basketball tryouts he was going to attend while he was in school overseas and such. Intelligent with a great spark of personality and passion for people, just all around good kid who life was stopped short due to foolishness at a party. I am a quarter century old have seen far too many times people of close association and a couple friends pass too quickly over things that really didn't matter in life...

It still hasn't even set in with me...things like this you can never get used to....seems so unreal.....but my thoughts and my mind is currently with J's parents and family. I love ya J and I love yall...May you RIP cous....

they say good die young,
I say the angels are born early,
no, it doesn't make sense,
people these days are real dirty,
taking the life of a mother's boy and a father's son,
What makes you think that you are the only one?
Just cause you have a gun,
Now you aint scarred of anyone,
but without it,
you are a coward,
Now we are his roses,
you the wilted flower,
innocence in a guilty environment,
this proves that our fatherless society,
needs our fathers to come up outta retirement,
we look for answers but remember best,
the short times we had,
will last forever, as you lay to rest,
but no stress,
your life we celebrate like the king,
no lioness,
I wish i could keep on writing,
this is straight off the top,
we love you, we miss you
but the hurt is causing writer's block....

Your soul will live on....Rest In Peace Joshua McMackle

Angels added to the army...

Dr. Dorothy Irene Heights - Passed today at 98. An extraordinary phenomenal woman, who we all should know or learn to know to understand and respect our history and the struggle and fight for civil rights. She led many in the push for equal rights, a huge integral part of the National Council of Negro Women and plethora of many other accomplishment including a Congressional gold medal 2004. May you RIP and thank you, thank you, thank you.

The Legendary Keith Elam (aka Guru), 1/2 of Gang Starr passed away yesterday....43 years old, still young in his time. A huge influence on the hip hop community and definitely one of my favorites in "growing years" of hip hop. Wanted to leave you with on of my favorites and I am sure many others as well. Jump through the history of the 23's

Escalanteeee

This week the great high school math teacher Jaime Escalante passed. I have some great childhood memories of the movie "Stand and Deliver."

Gotta give much respect to the all teachers of the world. It takes an insurmountable amount of dedication and passion to truly care for students who often do not care for yourself.

For that I want to shout out all of my professors and teachers who took the time to be there for me.

Gordon Gartrell

Just wanted to put yall on my FAVORITE podcast (yes this is a rarity that i have one favorite, lol). The legendary Phontigga from the Legendary Little Brother crew along with DJ Brainchild started their own radio show back in late 2008. Since then have put out 17 episodes. No there is no consistency to when they do podcast but I kinda like the inconsistency. They put it out whenever they have time. Phonte keeps it very down to earth and really talks about some things related to what is going in the general public with comic spin on it of course while putting you on to some very good different music that is not easy to find. I highly suggest you take a listen while you are cleaning the house, at work, or just chillin at home. Episodes are usually about an hour and half.

FYI: Gordon Gartrell (an actual clothing line) mentioned on The Cosby's and the logo for the radio show is from Season 1, Episode 8.

Keep ya hands off!.....my Constitution, too!

This is for my beautiful women of color (even more for my black women) who "go natural" with their hair. Nothing against the beautiful women of our caucasian counterparts but I am sure the women of color may have possibly contemplated putting a mouse trap in their head for every person making an attempt to touch their hair out of the person's own curiosity like the woman of color is a freak show. Yeah i know many of you may have heard this argument before but I read a story today on NPR and wanted share some insight.

I have heard some try to argue it is not a race thing that it is a DIFFERENT thing. NOPE. I have yet to see or come across a situation where caucasian women are the objects of curiosity when it comes to their hair. If it does occur, I am sure the situation is a rarity; I have no doubt in my mind that it is. It even angers me to some extent that people have the audacity to run up to someone they don't know and put their hands on them violating their space and dignity. We are all ignorant to somethings but in this case, ignorance is no excuse.

We still do live in age where the objectification of another human being is a derivative of an exclusionary mentality brewed from a people who still hold institutional power and project their authority on to a culture different than their own....don't get it?...read it slowly :-)

So apparently, and not surprisingly, people are actually divided over the recent passing of the health-care overhaul...i mean bill. Some states feel their constitutional right's and authority are being stripped. Did they forget that President Obama's study was at Harvard Law in the concentration of constitutional law? His forte and I am sure one of his guilty pleasures was to break down the constitution in its entirety. But because when writing such discerning documents you are usually writing, more often than not, in the context of the time in which it is created. The elasticity of a document such as The Constitution allows interpretation to evolve along with society.

Kudos to Google for this one!
(I might be bias on this one a lil since the CEO and found of google is a VPI&SU grad...go HOKIES, lol)

In Lenoir, N.C. where thousands of workers laid off because of a Furniture store closing, Google takes the opportunity to step in and building a center which would create hundreds of jobs for the laid off workers. Not only that; they would also train the laid off worker in the technology necessary for practically any to do the job.

But my extra two sense on this is, is this consider sustainable growth or is it just a big corporation attempting or continuing to build an empire? True sustainable growth, in context, occurs when a community is able to sustain itself after given the proper resources and tools to do so. So was Google really giving the community a boost or just making itself look good in the public view...or both?

Who know...I do think it is example of the benefit of capitalism, though a lot do not like how the Walmart giant bulldozes into communities whether they like it or not...

just my thought, juskev

Just an FYI since one the geeks that I am, is a Computer geek. :-)

I like the analogies with this one! haha

Watch on YouTube

This post was sent to me by my boy Gordon C.... Though quite a few years old, I think it adds a bit of humor and curiosity to a lyricist mind...just to let you know you may be going to the 8th circle of Hell for laughing at this one but I think the dude you might laugh at, actually is the one with the real lyrical talent or take the converse of that statement, lol...

VA2NY

Been mad busy with travels, moving and digging more into my passions these past couple months. Made my quad monthly trip up north to Brooklyn to see family and friends and as usual a GREAT time and good stories to come back with each and every time. Anyway, just wanted to give ya quick update on what is going on with me.

I've gotten feedback from yall on this blog and I am glad you all are feelin' it. Please let me know about things you would like to add for a post...especially MUSIC, of course I will use my personal discretion on what will be posted since it is my blog but yall know I am always down for some good music.

Let's continue to keep Haiti in our prayers and now also a deep prayer for the Chileans as well. President Obama needs to stop smoking (though he said he would calm it down); one of my cousins had the opportunity to check him in at the hospital in Bethesda, MD...so star struck the President had to tell her to let go of his hand, lol. ....Raheem Devaughn's new's album "Love & War Masterpeace" goes on sale tomorrow...YES! .... While the entire economy seems to be falling into debt til death, another Congressman continues to surplus and...get this, HE RETURNS THE MONEY.

Aiight, yall know I aint into the whole "blogging" my life stories so these are the quick updates for now...back with music soon...peace & blessings

What ya know bout?

Bueno trabajo, Costa Rica! They have elected this country's first female President, Laura Chinchilla.

Did you know Costa Rica doesn't even have an army? Abolished in 1949.

France is selling arms to Russia. How interesting since France is a part of NATO. Russia is still continuing to big arm the country of Georgia, which then leaves the "savior" country U.S. to start asking questions..hmmm

Thought this was kinda interesting from MoveOn.org. I am not sure of the authenticity of this "ransom note", but nonetheless it brought my attention. Recently, President Obama invited the Republican party to a televised open discussion on health care once again in response to their request for a discussion. I am pretty sure the response was not to the least open. As we all remember the last time open televised discussion which allowed them to ask him questions, did not make the Republicans looks so "smart."

Dr. Bernard Anthony Harris, Jr., the first African-American towalk in space (first to fly into space is Guion S. Bluford, Jr. on Challenger in '83) has been offering FREE two-week science camp programs at selected universities around the country, some of which are HBCUs. Pulling back to the community as well all should in some way....Reading about this definitely was a personal boost of encouragement. The importance of mathematics and science is definitely losing it's niche in education.

Haiti debt forgiven

It has now been stated, by all nation-members of the G7, that any debt owed by Haiti is forgiven.

Yeah I would think, France, part of the G7 would not be so ruthless and say they are still owed by a people they once enslaved and made the Haitians pay for their own freedom.

Actually, I wanted to write a good amount for this post but you know what?....there is plenty of information out there on the history of this country and other countries that have been treated just as horribly but I will continue to bring to light any injustice that I can possibly take the time to share.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2010

Obama says, "C'mon Son!"

Well he doesn't actually say "C'mon Son!" but I definitely like Jon Stewart's commentary on this one!

This is a good look from the folks over @ on.us.tees where I referenced it....

Just a few things

Miss Virginia 2009 is Miss America 2010....23 year-old Communications major at VCU out of my hometown! Let's get it....VA STAND UP!!....yeah, She is FINE!

Serena Williams adds yet another tennis tournament title to her extensive list. Ms. Williams won the 2010 Australian Open through some growling painful matches...I see you champ!

So yeah, I know Obama's most recent State of the Union Address seems like ages ago but I want to mention something in particular about Obama claiming that "the flood gates will open" on a supreme court decision. Pretty much right now U.S. corporation have a loop hole to give unlimited contributions to political campaigns.

Uh oh Apple!

Wants some black history? Look around you, it is definitely happening right now!!!

You can't play here, boy....

Yes, I know I am little late on this. Shout out to my homie, Sewit, for the article.

Going back in time to....2010? Yeah, apparently someone has created a "Whites Only" basketball league.

Seriously...NO SERIOUSLY.

That someone is former professional wrestler, Don "Moose" Lewis. He claims that "fundamental basketball" in the NBA is being now overtaken by "street ball" mainly associated with "people of color." At least he used a socially accepted term...yeah...

So apparently this man hasn't heard of Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson ect. I honestly do not want to respond much to the article but will reference this article in which some logic is simply put. I hope this sparks conversation on what reality we still live in here in the U.S. with President Obama...

Hey there, Sugar Mama!

I read a very interesting article on NPR today entitled, "Sugar Mama's on the Rise." And honestly was not surprised at all by what I read. Definitely an empowering story for my strong beautiful women out there and even maybe good look for some of us men, lol.

There are now statistically more women with college degrees than there are men. Women are now beginning to match just as well with the salary compensation and management positions. I mean, what man wouldn't mind a woman taking care of him? A man with a very strong ego...I think we all knew the answer to that. I myself have a pretty strong ego but my pride doesn't carry me nor should carry the relationships we are in. I know for a fact if I were to be in that situation, I'd have no problem with it.

Anyway, I don't really want to say too much about the article. If you want to take the time, give it a read and form an opinion...peace!

RIP Teddy & To those fallen in the Haitian nation

Man, already a crazy beginning to ~~2009~~ 2010. In the past few years we have lost many iconic music legends. Let's make sure we continue the preservation of the music as the baby boomer era is now being laid to rest.
Rest in Peace, Teddy Pendergrass Sr., March 26, 1950 – January 13, 2010.

"Don't Try to Call Her" feat. Ryan Leslie --> Mr. Leslie continues to bring the heat with his song writing and producing! This song definitely hit me a little. Should of heard this song several months ago, lol.

Watch on YouTube

Wanted to post this song that is also produced by Mr. Leslie. I just think it is a great song!

I promise you will not go wrong with this mixtape if you enjoy good production and lyrics. Elzhi's "The Preface" is a heavily slept-on, phenomenally produced and written album. I would even go as far to argue that it is a CLASSIC!

Georgia Anne Muldrow "Endure EthNick Remix (prod. Nick Tha 1Da)" -->Had to add this last one. Remixed by the one and only Nick the 1da...Represent homie, I see you...LET'S GET IT!!!

"Goodbye" feat. Wale & Jean Grae --> One of my favorite joints off the Back to the Feature mixtape. It was hot on the market about two years ago. 9th is always sampling that timeless music!

"Decline" feat. Chiddy Bang --> this song is off of the Swelly Express mixtape. I was actually caught off guard and almost didnt download a few months back, so glad I did...it is a well put together mixtape, very impressive..they have been in the game for minute.

PGA's person of the year passes

The professional golf world mourns the passing of William Powell, the first African American to build, own and operate a golf course. He passed away New Year's eve.

Mr. Woods has Mr. Powell to thank for opening that door of opportunity for him to become the greatest golf player and arguably the greatest athlete in the world.

Tiger did not want to fully admit that he is African American but I am sure he has had a pretty good reminder for the recent media events that have unfolded.

Mr. Powell thanks for working those long painful hours to take care of your family and opening up that golf course. You made your vision and dreams a reality and helped to make other's dreams and goal a reality as well.

Here's Mr. Powell's golf course and list of awarded accomplishments and recognitions below: Clearview Gold Club
